Utterson, ON, Canada

About

The Muskoka Nest is a jewel of a cottage perched in the trees on the edge of Three Mile Lake, with windows on three sides filling the main room with water and light. Outside: a private hot tub, a fire pit by the water, a sandy walk-in beach, and a canoe, kayak and paddleboard at the dock. Small, warm and thoughtfully finished - 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, sleeps 6. Dogs welcome. The beach, dock and fire pit are shared with the one cottage next door - book both and choose your neighbours.

Good to know

THE SPACE An open main room - kitchen, dining table and living area together - wrapped in windows, so the lake is with you from the moment you wake up. Three bedrooms (2 queens and a double), one bathroom, and hooks and open storage in place of dressers. OUTSIDE A wrap-around deck with a private side deck for meals and the BBQ, a hot tub under string lights, and a fire pit down by the water. Stairs run most of the way down to the beach. ON THE WATER A sandy, shallow, gradual entry that kids and dogs love. Canoe, kayak and stand-up paddleboard included. The bay is sheltered and shaded by big trees - cool and calm; paddle out for full sun. IN THE KITCHEN Full-size fridge, dishwasher, oven, Nespresso Vertuo, drip coffee and a milk frother - everything you need to actually cook. A/C, fast wifi and plenty of outlets; the dining table doubles as a good work spot.

Other Details to Note

GOOD TO KNOW BEFORE YOU BOOK Shared spaces - The cottage, the decks and the hot tub are all yours. The beach, dock, boat port, water toys and fire pit are shared with the one cottage next door, and the two sit close together. Most guests find this friendly and easy. If you'd rather have the waterfront to yourselves, book both cottages together - message us and we'll arrange it. Getting here - The last stretch is a steep gravel road. Take it slowly, and arrive in daylight the first time if you can. We send photos and step-by-step directions before every stay. In winter, 4WD/AWD and snow tires are strongly recommended - local operators plough the road and driveway and do a great job, but snow here is measured in feet. Parking - Unload at the cottage, then park up the hill in The Nest's parking area. Please don't leave cars down by the cottages; it blocks our guests next door. Travel in as few cars as you can. Size - A small cottage with one bathroom. Families and couples find it just right; six adults each wanting their own space will find it tight. The water - Natural Muskoka shoreline: shallow, warm and sandy underfoot, with shade from the big trees. Seasons - July to September is prime swimming. October brings the colour and hot tub weather. November to April the lake is frozen or snow-covered - come for the fire, the hot tub and the quiet. Groceries - 25 to 30 minutes away in Bracebridge, along with restaurants, butter tarts and Hatchery Falls. Shop on your way in. Noise - This is a community of long-established family cottages. Please keep noise reasonable, nothing audible to neighbours after 11pm per Muskoka Lakes bylaws, and fireworks only on designated holidays. Bring - Beach towels (we provide bath towels, and there is no dryer).

Guest Access

You have the cottage, the wrap-around deck, the private side deck and the hot tub entirely to yourselves. The beach, the dock, the boat port, the water toys and the fire pit are shared with the one cottage next door (the Muskoka Cabana), and the two cottages sit close together. When it's occupied you'll see and hear your neighbours and may share the fire pit in the evening. If you'd like the whole waterfront to yourselves, book both cottages together - just message us. Stairs run most of the way down from the cottage to the water, with a short natural path at the bottom.
